an album in twenty-four hours...
I love music in all its facets. I like it minimalistic. I like it epic. I like guitars as much as synthesizers. I like being creative and figuring out what a song needs. What I don‘t like are trends that try to influence our taste. I like music with character. Music that is different. But sometimes the new releases seem to me like a copy of a copy of a copy. Sounds like this, sounds like that. And always these superlatives: Best dark wave newcomer. Best post punk album. Again, and again just the best of the best. And always nicely categorized.
And sometimes everything bores me so much that I think: Hey, I can make a song like that in five minutes. Ha! Challenge accepted. But no. That really would have been a bit too bold. But I thought I‘d try writing and recording an album in twenty-four hours. Well, the project failed. It became a mini album at maximum. But except the samples and guest vocals, all seven songs were done in just one day.
That is why the album has turned out to be mainly electronic. You could call the music a kind of minimal punk, even though I didn‘t restrict myself in the creation process. Well, except that I wanted to finish as many songs as possible in this relatively short time.
And I‘m thrilled with it. The songs are simple, the songs are minimalistic, reduced to the bare essentials. And I think they reflect the essence of »Spinne Am Abend« at this point. The album sounds fantastic, but not polished. It‘s still underground, takes some getting used to. And really surprising for me: most of the songs are danceable. That has never happened to me before.
In conclusion, I can say: The experiment was very funny and I am absolutely happy with the result. And now I hope that these songs will become your loyal fellows, preferably for longer than 24 hours. Enjoy!
